Wincanton Amateur Dramatic Society Mother Goose
I was let loose on Saturday evening to moderate Wincanton Amateur Dramatic Society’s Mother Goose at the Memorial Hall in Wincanton. What a lovely evening I and my companion had there, being thoroughly entertained by their great cast.
The script was by Nigel Holmes and it was refreshing to hear different panto gags which raised many a smile with myself and my companion. It was a good choice of script for this Society and it was obvious how much they all enjoyed putting it on for their audience.
It was also great to see the inclusivity of the cast in this society, a huge well done for that, I wish more societies and shows would follow your example. As Chair of Somerset Fellowship of Drama, and a retired Speech and Language Therapist, it is an area about which I feel strongly, we should all be more inclusive in our shows. Everyone has something to offer and we learn so much from each other.
Mother Goose had all the ingredients needed in a panto, a dame who was so good at interacting with the audience, a lovely principal boy and girl, a talking Priscilla, the charming junior chorus, an evil Demon King, a sparkly good fairy, a great link woman, a sneaky fox, a bumbling squire and an enthusiastic ensemble. Along with this colourful costumes, lovely strong singers, plenty of opportunities to cheer or boo and hiss and some good laughs. I was sorry that the people of Wincanton were not there in force to support their local group, they missed a treat.
Thank you for having us and well done to all involved whether on stage or off stage.
