Glastonbury & Street Pottymouth Squad's Sleeping with Beauty

Glastonbury and Street Pottymouth Squad present

Sleeping with Beauty

Another new venue and another new group entering our competition.

Welcome to the Pottymouth Squad. I was looking forward to meeting up with this troupe as they toured around the shire of Somerset. The opening nights venue was the Edgar Hall, Somerton. A packed audience was evident as I was shown to my table.

Those who are familiar with TomWhalley’s writing will be aware that some of the ‘one liners’ can be very near the mark. This script, however, took things completely off the radar!

Under the supervision of experienced director Brian Epps this was a top class production with an exceptional dedicated cast.

If you are a prude, easily offended or take yourself too seriously it’s best to stay at home and watch Emmerdale!

As the programme suggests this was an Adult Panto for over 18’s only, although my reckoning is some of these youngsters know more than we do!

Continued adult humour was slick and those ‘one liners’ kept flowing especially from the talented Christian Lockyer who portrayed the Queen in a loveable but brash way.

There were many memorable moments in the show.  I particularly enjoyed the classroom scene and the ‘Twelve Days Without’ was  hilarious. Clearly the props department had their work cut out making this scene the show-piece it was.

The UV was ingenious and clearly thought through. Many a ‘tail’ to be told during this scene!

Singing was to a high standard with some great re-written upbeat numbers including Disco Inferno, Land of Make Believe and Best Years of our Lives.

All costumes looked elegant under the lighting with a new wig and rig for the Queen – exactly as it should be.

Congratulations to Haus Productions who set the scene for this colourful spectacle. Sound was exceptional and lighting well managed.

It’s hardly surprising the Pottymouth Squad performances are sell-outs in no time and with a waiting list too!

This was without doubt a most enjoyable comedic pantomime with seasoned performers making Sleeping with Beauty the success it was.

Congratulations one and all and thank you for keeping your audience wide awake and transfixed!
