Wayfarers' Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Wayfarers Pantomime Society

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

During these long and depressing January days the people of Taunton are extremely fortunate to have the Wayfarers Pantomime Society on their doorstep to blow away those winter blues and to ensure that their new year starts off with a bang!

It was at the Brewhouse Theatre where this society was performing Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Sarah Lock was once again in the hot seat as Director and the script by Alan P. Frayn contained all the necessary ingredients of a successful pantomime.

This was without doubt another slick, colourful and well rehearsed production that we all come to expect from this established society. Acting was to an impressive standard and I believe the casting was spot on. First and foremost I must congratulate your team of Dwarfs. They were the ‘magnificent seven’. Under the supervision of Sarah Smith and her TWYGs team it was inevitable these ‘little people’ were to give a faultless performance, and this they most certainly achieved.

With a strong cast of principals I was particularly drawn to two characters, those being Chuckles (Anna Dunton) and Scribbles (Dylan Merrell). You both held this show together with energy and panache. Comic timing is the essence in panto and you both achieved this admirably. Usually those ‘Christmas cracker jokes’ we all love to hate create many a groan from an audience, but it was through your delivery that you had your audiences in stitches. And I thought I was the only one left behind in Taunton with antiquated technology but thanks to Scribbles you saved my day! Very well played indeed.

I did notice however, that two or three cast members were wearing rings. It’s always a professional touch to remove these or cover with a plaster.

Under the direction of MD Matt Holman-Holmes singing was to an exceptionally high standard especially from Snow White (Hannah Carolan), Prince Ferdinand (Bevan Webber) and Queen Avarice (Abby Newman).

I am certain all dancers, Ensemble and junior Ensemble received their gold seal of approval from Choreographer Sheila Driver. You were all on top form and not a step out of place.

All sets looked magical under the lighting adding appeal to the show.

The number of costume changes was remarkable and looked striking thanks to Triple C Costume Hire. Helen and her team certainly had their work cut out and how I visualised all of those rails backstage!

I applaud each of you and look forward to seeing what hidden treasures Mrs Twankey has up her sleeve for your 27 production!
