‘Enchanted April’ is an adaptation of the novel ‘The Enchanted April’ by Elizabeth Von Arnim. Published in 1922, it tells a story about transformation and women’s power to reinvent themselves. Brimming with laughter, it is a witty and delightful depiction of what it is like to rediscover joy. The discreet advertisement in The Times, addressed ‘To Those who Appreciate Wisteria and Sunshine’, offers a small medieval castle for rent above a bay on the Italian Riviera for the month of April. Four very different women – the dishevelled and down-trodden Mrs Wilton, the sad, sweet-faced Mrs Arnott, the formidable widow Mrs Graves and the ravishing socialite Lady Caroline Bramble – are drawn to the shores of the Mediterranean that April.
